1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Northeastern Software Services LLC handles information when you use the vim-todo-list Chrome extension.

vim-todo-list is designed to store your task and note data locally in your browser by default. Optional features may connect to services or files that you configure.

2. Information the Extension Processes

The extension may process the following categories of information:

• Task and note content: board names, task titles, notes, links, priorities, due dates, and completion state that you create inside the extension.
• Extension settings: theme preferences, keyboard layout preferences, AI settings, and Obsidian integration settings.
• Imported or exported data: information contained in database or CSV files that you choose to import or export.
• Optional Obsidian sync data: file names, folder paths, and Markdown content when you enable vault synchronization.
• Optional AI request content: note text or editor text that is sent to the AI endpoint you configure for autocomplete.

3. How Data Is Stored

By default, vim-todo-list stores your data locally using an embedded SQLite database persisted in Chrome storage on your device.

We do not operate a backend service for storing your extension data as part of the core product.

4. Optional Features That Share Data

• AI autocomplete: if you enable AI suggestions, the text needed to generate a suggestion is sent to the endpoint you configure, such as a local Ollama server or another compatible endpoint you choose.
• Obsidian integration: if you grant access to an Obsidian vault folder, the extension may read and write Markdown files in that folder to keep notes synchronized.
• Clipboard actions: the extension may write content to your clipboard when you use features that copy data.

5. Permissions

The extension requests browser permissions to support its features, including local storage, opening the overlay on the active tab, optional notifications, clipboard write access, and optional network access for configured AI endpoints.

6. How We Use Information

• To provide the note-taking and task management functionality of the extension.
• To save your preferences and maintain your local data.
• To support optional integrations that you explicitly enable.
• To help you import, export, sync, or organize your information.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information.

We do not share your extension data with Northeastern Software Services LLC servers as part of the extension's normal operation. Data may be shared only in the following cases:

• With services or endpoints that you explicitly configure or use.
• When writing to files or folders that you explicitly grant access to.
• When required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, or security.

8. Data Retention and Control

Because the extension stores data locally by default, you control retention through your browser, your exported files, and any connected vault files.

You can delete data by removing notes or boards, clearing extension storage, uninstalling the extension, or deleting synchronized files you created through optional integrations.

9. Security

We aim to minimize data collection by keeping core data local. However, no device, browser, or third-party endpoint can be guaranteed completely secure. If you enable optional integrations, their security also depends on the systems and services you choose to use.

10. Children's Privacy

vim-todo-list is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through a hosted backend service for this extension.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date and last updated date on this page.
